He is the clinical lead for laparoscopic colorectal surgery at the Centre for Academic Surgery at The Royal London and St Bartholomews Hospitals. Mr Shafi Ahmed qualified from Kings College Hospital Medical School in 1993 and trained in London. He undertook a period of research at the Royal London Hospital investigating the genetics of colorectal cancer and was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at Barts and the London NHS trust in 2007. He works in the Centre for Academic Surgery and is developing laparoscopic colorectal surgery within the trust and is also leading the enhanced recovery pathway for patients undergoing major surgery.  He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Barts and the London Medical School, Queen Mary University of London and is the surgical lead for development and delivery of the undergraduate surgical curriculum. He is an educational supervisor at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is well as actively involved in appointing, educating and training future surgeons.
